Kindred Civics Night: Wednesdays at 6pm

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. M.Mead quote

A space to learn together, to connect face-to-face and build community connections.

Kindred Civics Night is a new weekly gathering to help each other navigate local government, city processes, and civic life with clarity, confidence, and connection.

This isn’t a lecture or a political group. It’s a come-as-you-are, ask-what-you-want, let’s-figure-this-out-together kind of space.

It’s where we connect the dots between what’s happening in town and what it means for our lives, our businesses, our neighborhoods, and our future.

What Do We Mean by Civics?

Civics is the study and practice of how people participate in public life, how decisions get made, who makes them, and how we can shape the systems that affect us all.

At Kindred Civics Night, civics means learning how things work, from local government and public budgets to organizing your neighborhood or starting something new. It’s not about memorizing laws or debating politics. It’s about asking better questions, finding the right paths, and supporting each other in making our community more connected, informed, and people-powered.

Why Civics at Kindred?

Because we believe the best conversations happen face-to-face, over real food and shared purpose. Here, everyone respects everyone, and we honor each individual's uniquely valuable perspective.

Kindred was built as an activated social space; a place for ideas, connection, communion, and community care. We believe spaces like this are crucial to the people's ability to self govern.

Civics Night reflects that mission.

All are Welcome!

  • Locals with questions and no clear place to ask
  • Business owners navigating red tape
  • First-time voters, new residents, and longtime neighbors
  • Anyone who’s ever wondered: “Can they really do that?”
  • People who want to make change but don’t know where to start
  • People who already know a thing or two — and want to help others

What to Expect?

  • Drop-in style. Come solo or bring a friend.
  • Light facilitation, open conversation
  • Resources, strategies, and connection
  • Kindred food + drinks available (optional but delicious)
  • Guest speakers and rotating themes as we grow
  • Respect and curiosity as foundational values

Collaborative Interest-based Learning

Every Kindred Civics Night is a little differently shaped by who shows up, what’s happening in our town, and what questions people bring to the table. No pressure to speak. No need to prep. Just bring your curiosity.

We explore topics like:

  • How to open or grow a business
  • How to start a nonprofit or local group
  • How to navigate city processes and departments
  • How to follow development projects and zoning decisions
  • How to understand (and influence) city budgets
  • How to connect with the right people at City Hall
  • How to speak up — at the right time, in the right place
  • How to organize your neighborhood or advocate for a cause
  • How to get appointed to a board or run for office
  • How to access public records or understand local laws
  • How to create better systems — without the burnout

This is a space for learning, supporting, and navigating together.

If we don’t have the answer, we’ll help you find someone who does.
